With the acquisition of IBM products like Domino® and Notes® by the Indian IT company HCL Technologies, the market and the long-successful product line experienced renewed activity after a long period of stagnation. Information about the acquisition and the upcoming expansion to version 11 was announced as early as 2018. The acquisition process by HCL is now complete, and Notes® and Domino® version 11 has been available since December 20, 2019. As part of a comprehensive package, HCL COLLABORATION SOLUTIONS, numerous components, software programs, and apps have been improved. We will inform you here about some of the changes in the newly renamed HCL Sametime version 11.
Sametime – meaning "at the same time" – is a messaging software designed for use during conferences. IBM originally released it as part of a business platform to simplify collaborative work. At its core, HCL Sametime v11 allows participants or entire groups to work together from different locations. Various applications are available to multiple users, who can communicate with each other via chat, thus improving workflow.
With version 11, HCL Sametime becomes even more flexible and user-friendly. It now supports 64-bit community servers. This applies to Windows and will be extended to other operating systems in the future. Furthermore, HCL Sametime version 11 simplifies the maintenance and installation of Sametime v11 proxy servers. Initially, a .zip file is opened, and the complete installation of applications and servers is straightforward and largely automatic.
The chat function has been redesigned to be more attractive and boasts a new, user-friendly look. This should further emphasize the chat client's central role as a communication interface. HCL Sametime V11 will run seamlessly with HCL Domino® Version 11 and be fully compatible. Additional features may follow in the future.
