HCL Domino and Notes 12 – Public Beta has begun
The next version of the popular collaboration platform is just around the corner. According to Barry Rosen from Product Management, HCL Domino and Notes version 12 is scheduled for general release at the end of Q2 2021. Until then, the most extensive beta testing program in this product category to date will be underway. In the previous two testing programs for versions 10 and 11, HCL gained valuable experience and learned how to collaborate even more closely with the community. #dominoforever Product Ideas Forum Over the past two years, this has become an important tool for gathering and evaluating community requirements. Supported by this process, numerous useful features have already been integrated into the product.
HCL is pursuing ambitious goals with its Beta Program:
- Receive direct feedback from customers and users
- Finding a fault in the product
- Conduct integration tests in customer environments
- Receive feedback on implemented measures

For software manufacturers, it has become increasingly difficult to comprehensively test developed software for a customer's complex application landscape – especially with regard to third-party applications. A structured test program can help avoid errors during later integration and implement product innovations more quickly.
The following components are available for testing in the current beta program:
- Domino on Docker
- Domino for Windows, Linux, AIX and IBM i
- Traveler for Windows, Linux, AIX and IBM i
- Notes Standard for Windows
- Notes Standard for Mac
- Notes Basic for Windows (localized)
- Designer and Admin Client
Three beta versions of HCL Domino and Notes version 12 are being released. The first beta version was released on January 3, 19.01.2021. A new feature: the 15 most important language translations were available right from the start of the first beta version. This allows HCL to offer all customers early user testing. The software is distributed via the Flexnet Portal provided. The beta program is accompanied by a community forum.
Following the second beta version on February 16, 2021, HCL released the third beta version at the beginning of the second quarter for extensive testing. We have already tested the most important highlights for you:
Notes Client
- New and improved workspace
- Responding “on behalf of” mail-in databases
- Cascading installation of multiple languages
- Notes Basic Client in 64 bit version
Domino Server
- Automatic 1-click installation using a JSON file
- Native support for Let's Encrypt certificates
- Time-based one-time password for two-factor authentication
- Integrated backup solution in the product
Domino Designer
- Creating applications with responsive design
- Bootstrap 4 support for XPages
- Additional view styles

The Documentation The HCL Domino and Notes 12 Beta has been expanded and is available in a first version.
The big event will take place on June 7th, 2021. Launch event The HCL Domino 12 and HCL Sametime 11.6 versions will take place online.
