HCL Domino 14.5 and the Domino IQ Server: AI integration for your IT infrastructure

Artificial intelligence is making its way into enterprise software – and with HCL Domino 14.5 (expected to be available from June 2025), it will be integrated directly into existing IT infrastructure. The new Domino IQ Server enables, for the first time, the use of an AI engine directly on the Domino server. This means that organizations and companies can use AI-powered applications without sharing their data with external cloud providers.

HCL Domino 14.5 brings numerous improvements in usability, security, and system administration. The key innovation, however, is the Domino IQ Server, which integrates artificial intelligence directly into the platform. In addition, the user interface has been modernized, security features enhanced, and system administration optimized. The focus is on not only further developing Domino as a proven development platform but also combining it with modern technologies such as AI.

The Domino IQ Server is an integrated AI engine. It enables generative AI queries to be made and processed directly within Domino environments. Everything remains local on the company's own server – a crucial advantage for businesses that prefer not to share their sensitive data with external AI services. The server utilizes Large Language Models (LLMs) in GGUF format, which run directly on the Domino server. In HCl Domino applications, AI queries can be sent to the server and responses received via two new LotusScript classes (NotesLLMRequest and NotesLLMResponse). Because the AI engine runs entirely locally, no connections to external services are required, significantly improving data privacy and security.

Implementing the Domino IQ Server is efficient and requires no major changes to the existing IT infrastructure. The server uses LLMs in GGUF format and supports particularly efficient models from the Llama 3.x D family. System requirements are deliberately kept moderate: at least 8 CPUs and 16 GB of RAM are sufficient for a stable AI engine, although the actual memory requirements depend on the chosen model. Windows and Linux servers are supported. Management is handled via a central database (dominoiq.nsf) and the Domino Directory. Administrators can integrate, manage, and selectively control various LLMs.

Integrating AI directly into HCL Domino offers numerous application possibilities – for both database developers and IT administrators. Utilize automated text analysis or intelligent search and filter functions within Domino databases. For example, operate an AI-powered chatbot for internal support, with automated detection of security risks in Domino logs.

With HCL Domino 14.5 and the Domino IQ Server, artificial intelligence is integrated directly into enterprise systems – securely, flexibly, and powerfully. Companies gain the ability to use modern AI capabilities locally without compromising data privacy.
